What I don't get about the elder's wives is why on earth don't they bum a ride a home after the meeting if the husband has to stay for a meeting. That crap would have only happened to me once before I would have insisted on driving separately. I know not every couple has 2 cars (although all of them in my former hall did), but surely someone else would drop you at home. It's bad enough keeping the kids out until 9:30 on a school night, no need to make it worse by waiting for an elder's meeting to finish.

Why Elders leave the Organization and why their Wives stay.
by stuckinamovement ini have talked to quite a few brothers who have served as elders and servants and left the organization.
in most cases their wives have remained in despite the husbands best efforts to persuade his wife that the organization is wrong.
even though the wife can see problems within they continue to press on in service to the society.

Our Parents Are Freaking Idiots
by Pig inyes this is the new realization i have just had.. i recently went to a family event which happened to have several witnesses, none of whom i knew, thankfully.. "oh so you're ****'s and ****'s other child, (the evil son that went astray) nice to finally meet you".
anyway my dad comments to me saying that there are allot of nice single girls in the truth.
then he asks me if i've met any nice girls lately.. "well, no dad, it's quite hard to meet new people once... you know...you leave the org.

Pig, your post really speaks to me. I'm on the other side of the equation - I raised my children in the Borg from the time they were born until just a few months ago. I am trying so hard to undo the damage, but I'm not really sure that I'm getting it right. I hope that someday my kids will look back and realize that I really was trying to do the right things for them.

I was raised with a very clear understanding that my mom would *not* be supporting me when I was grown, nor would she be paying for my college education. She was also a real pain in the rear to live with when I was a teenager, so I was 100% ready to move out as soon as I could get into student housing. We didn't have cable TV, the internet hadn't been invented yet, I didn't have a car, I had a curfew, I wasn't allowed to have friends in my room - they had to stay in the living room, and I was required to attend church every Sunday. She quit helping me with my homework by the time I was in third grade, but she expected nothing less than straight As.
Sometimes I think making life too comfortable lessens a kid's motivation to get out and do for himself. I have 3 sons now, and I worry about whether I am setting them up to succeed or to flounder.

Soul Searching, need advice re: Physical Attraction
by Nice_Dream inok, so i was a young jw when i got married, and married a nice guy who was my first boyfriend.
i thought we had chemistry, but things weren't really working out in the sex department after we got married.
we had a pretty infrequent sex life for our whole realtionship...i'm talking months of dry spells.

In my experience, "chemistry" can mean different things. When I was young, I would occasionally meet someone I was instantly attracted to. That raw physical attraction doesn't last - people are not generally wired to continue to feel overwhelming lust at the mere sight of the same person for 50 years. It also doesn't guarantee that the sex will be all that great. There were plenty of occasions where the reality just didn't measure up based on the initial level of attraction.
Then there's the sort of chemistry that is based on finding someone you really "click" with. Just ROn may be the only person on earth who really gets my sense of humor, and he's certainly the only person who's ever been willing to put up with my BS long term. Neither of us looks like we did 20 years ago, and there have been dry spells in the bedroom, but I have never felt like there was anyone else for me.
I don't know how anyone could enjoy be married to someone they didn't feel a deep emotional connection with. To me, that is the defining characteristic of a godd marriage. I don't know how to build that - but marriage counseling seems like a good place to start.

How Far Would You Go To Steal A Bible Study From A New Pioneer?
by Bubblegum Apotheosis inonce upon a time there was a new brother named dave.
dave was new to the faith, and once he was baptized, he started to aux pioneer, and he finally made it to a "regular pioneer", sometimes "special pioneer hours".
dave had a very good feel for a certain demographic, he success rate was tremendous, and his ability to understand scriptures, remember society literature, did not go unnoticed by certain jealous shepherds.

Sadly, I am not surprised. In my own experience, there was one particular elder who considered himself exempt from all rules of conduct and he bullied or dominated the rest of the body to the point that no one would call him out even when he behaved abominably.

update on the KIDS
by Aussie Oz inexciting times.... son moved out of his jw home this week amid uproar from mother because he has follwed my advice about moving out and starting a new job.
visited him tonight in his new digs and he said: "don't know if i am going to stay in the truth"...!.
my advice was if that is what he wants to do then perhaps now is the time to not go to the new local hall and do a fade.... daughter read animal farm for school and commented: "i can see a few similarities to the jws in that story".... my response was well, wait till you read 1984 darling!

Mercedes said " I wasn't a very spiritual person in the WTS. I only did it because I believed it was the right thing to do. I don't feel the need to find another church."
I feel the same way. I rarely ever prayed, I never felt like I had a relationship with "Jehovah". I was really only in it for the social aspects, and I seriously overestimated their value.

ApostaRAD! Apostates Wanted
by Megachusen inhey guys, i don't really get a chance to post here often but i've just made a site where i'm attempting to add a little humor to how horrible the witnesses are.. i'd really appreciate it if you guys could come by and critique the site and let me know what you think.
